What is Giclee?

A Giclee Print starts with a high-resolution digital file of the original painting which is then printed using fade-resistant, archival inks onto archival substrates such as canvas.  The digital image undergoes extensive color and tonal corrections to match the original artwork.

While the original artwork has fixed dimensions, the Giclee print can be produced in varying sizes to suit the buyer’s requirements. Giclee prints from Lee Sullivan are produced on archival quality canvas unless you request other substrates.  Standard prints are produced mounted to a backer board (it may be framied by your local frame shop). It ships in a flat carton.

Prints that are flat mounted use gator board as the backing.  These prints may be framed by your local framer or can be ordered from Lee Sullivan with a slim gold metal frame with wire hanger installed.  Please use the  Contact link to request a quote for your specific print size. Framing generally costs approximately $0.50 to $0.70 per inch of frame (simply add up the total perimeter dimensions and multiple by the cost per inch).

The prints may also be purchased gallery wrapped over stretchers.  Gallery wrapping allows you to skip flat mounting and the cost of a frame. With a gallery wrap, the print is stretched around the side of the stretcher bars and stapled to the back of a 1.5 inch deep stretcher frame. Hanger wire is installed on the back to allow immediate hanging in your home.

If you are looking for a Giclee print that is unmounted or unstretched or for a size not shown as an option for a particular painting, please send us a message by clicking this Contact link or in the header on each page.  Keep in mind that prints larger than the listed sizes may lose some of the originals definition.
